On thursday September 10th, Stefan de Jong (LURIS, Universiteit Leiden) defended his dissertation concerning valorization policies in the Netherlands. Important findings are that the Dutch Science System is in a transition towards recognition and broader application of ‘valorization’ or ‘impact’ measures in science. Scientists are driven to impact society with their knowledge. There are however still significant barriers to be overcome, and policy needs to be adapted to recognize and award valorization activities conducted by scientists.
